Get Up, Get Dressed — Why Looking Good Is the Start To Feeling Good

1. Looking Good = Feeling Good

It’s a well-known fact that dressing up makes you feel better. So, take a hot shower and dress up! It makes you feel good about yourself, and there are no drawbacks. Wearing your favourite dress or suit and putting on some accessories transform you into a new person and boost your confidence significantly (even if you’re WFH).

Ask Yourself: Why should I get ready for the day? Does it add to my well-being? It improves your mood, self-esteem, and ability to focus and perform tasks. More importantly, it starts your day right!

2. It Gives Your Day Structure & Consistency

“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.” – E. Luccock

Dressing up provides you with a schedule to follow because it affects how and what you feel. It’s also important to consider the potential negative effects of not getting ready for the day on one’s mental health. We are creatures of habit, and a lack of structure and routine causes a negative impact on how we feel about ourselves.

Ask Yourself: Do I want to make this my routine? Let’s face it: facts are facts. You must put on something in the morning. So, not getting dressed is out of the question. The distinction between throwing on clothes in the morning and intentionally planning your outfits is that one requires planning and effort, and vice versa. The daily feedback of action-and-reward (outfit planning + feeling good about how you look) can aid in the formation of a habit of dressing well!

3. You Will Feel More Responsible

Beyond the elegance of a crisp white shirt, dressing up shows effort, which becomes a symbol of respect for those around you and yourself. Dressing up can indicate that you accept adult responsibilities. We don’t have to idolise adolescent youth; instead, we can appreciate the wisdom and respect that comes with age and responsibility.

Ask Yourself: How can I be more responsible? Dressing up is your responsibility. Personal appearance is one of the few things over which you have complete control. It’s also something that employers expect you to handle without much debate.

We recently rebranded — you can learn more about that in our blog post “We Rebranded!”. The rebranding was necessary for evaluating our past actions and charting our progress in the future. The rebranding journey encourages the business to look at the strengths and areas of improvement, which sets a strong foundation for digital marketing and building a brand that you can be proud of.

4. Bring Joy Into Other People’s Lives

“The trouble with most of us is that we’d rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.” – Norman Vincent Peale

Dressing well is a wonderful way to contribute to the happiness of others. How? Consider this: Who’s the next person to see you after you leave your house for the day? The people who see your outfits the most are your friends, family, coworkers, and strangers!

Ask Yourself: Are you ready to express your unique style? And isn’t it nice to see someone who puts an effort into the way they dress? Take the lead. Dress nicely and start bringing some joy into the world!

We asked our team to do a competitive analysis, and they came back with our strengths and areas of improvement (which we are implementing at present). While it was hard to hear our weaknesses — it motivated us to do better. Nothing or nobody is perfect; we have to keep learning and evolving, which is how we arrived here as humans.

5. Get a Sense of Accomplishment

What better way to start the day than with a stylish and well-coordinated outfit already planned for you? Starting the day with a goal (a well-coordinated outfit) and achieving that goal (leaving the house wearing said outfit) gives you an immediate sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, similar to making your bed every morning.

Ask Yourself: Do you want to dress for success? Coco Chanel, the founder of Chanel, once said, “Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.” So, if you want to be perceived as successful and competent, make no excuses and dress the part.
